This plaque marks a huge underground store of ammunition dropped by British planes. There were three members of the resistance, together with two British paratroopers who were evading capture.
'Plan Tortue' was one of several coded plans co-ordinating sabotage in an effort to paralyse the German infrastructure after D Day. 'Tortue' was designated to disrupt road traffic and its work against enemy convoys contributed greatly to the local liberation.
The plaque also refers to a German who was 'silently' killed there.
